Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and owner of both the X social media platform and SpaceX, voiced his support for Florida Senator Rick Scott to become the next Senate Majority Leader on Sunday. As Washington anticipates whether President-elect Donald Trump will make an endorsement in the Senate, Musk’s public backing drew immediate attention.
“Rick Scott for Senate Majority Leader!” Musk posted on X, shortly after concluding a successful fall campaigning for Trump.
With Republicans securing the White House and the Senate, intrigue in the nation’s capital has grown over who will work alongside Trump in leading the Senate GOP. Earlier this year, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate GOP leader in history, announced he would not seek another term as GOP leader.
While Trump has kept quiet about any Senate GOP leader endorsements, on Sunday he urged Republican senators to support recess appointments for Cabinet officers.
Once considered a long shot, Scott’s bid has gained traction following a decisive reelection win in Florida and several high-profile endorsements from other senators. He is competing against fellow Republicans John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota, with the election by secret ballot scheduled for Wednesday.
