The financial disclosures of former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and his wife have revealed a combined net worth exceeding $11 million following their retirement from government service, as reported by Fox News.
Fox News obtained a copy of Dr. Fauci’s 2022 termination report through a public records request, shedding light on their financial status up to the end of that year. The records indicated that their net worth had increased by nearly $2 million since before the onset of the pandemic, although it did decrease from 2021 to 2022.
OpenTheBooks CEO Adam Andrzejewski noted that during the pandemic years, the Faucis’ household net worth exceeded $10 million but experienced a downturn in the markets in the subsequent year.
However, Fauci’s net worth remained substantially higher than the reported $7.6 million in 2019.
Andrzejewski also highlighted that Fauci was the highest-paid federal employee, earning $480,654 before his retirement in December, surpassing the president’s salary of $400,000.
After retirement, Fauci is estimated to be receiving a federal pension comparable to a presidential salary, marking it as the largest federal retirement package in history.
Government records revealed that the Faucis’ net worth increased from approximately $9.54 million in 2019 to $11.5 million by the end of 2022. This growth was attributed to various factors, including investment gains, awards, compensation, and royalties.
There was, however, a $1.1 million decrease in their net worth from 2021 when it stood at $12.6 million.
Fauci’s assets were found to be diversified across trust funds, retirement accounts, and college education accounts, with a primary focus on mutual funds. By the end of the previous year, Fauci’s account balance amounted to $9.25 million.
His wife, Christine Grady, who serves as the National Institutes of Health’s chief bioethicist, contributed approximately $2.2 million to their net worth.
In terms of compensation, Fauci’s salary increased by nearly $25,000 between 2021 and 2022, retaining his position as the highest-paid federal employee, surpassing even President Biden’s earnings. In 2022, Fauci received approximately $481,000, up from the $456,000 he earned the previous year.
Following his retirement in December, Fauci assumed the role of Distinguished University Professor at Georgetown University’s School of Medicine in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases.
This division focuses on clinical care, research, and training in infectious diseases. Additionally, Fauci holds an appointment in the university’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
