Amid escalating riots in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has detained a person suspected of sabotaging law enforcement vehicles with homemade caltrops.
The sharp, spiked devices are intended to deflate tires and were employed to disrupt law enforcement activities.
During the unrest, one individual was arrested for obstructing law enforcement and using caltrops to deflate the tires of police vehicles. Upon arrest, the individual was found with a bag containing several similar devices.
The DHS tweeted: “The subject was arrested.” The post included images of the suspect and the seized items.
Footage aired on MS NOW, formerly known as MSNBC, captured the devices being used by protesters before the network quickly cut away.
Additionally, an anti-ICE activist reportedly bit off a federal agent’s finger during the riots on Saturday.
Democratic leaders, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Governor Tim Walz, have publicly condemned ICE and called for their removal from the city, yet have not intervened against the violent protesters.
