Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has ordered that both the U.S. and Florida state flags be flown at half-staff on August 1st to honor wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, who passed away at age 71 on July 24th.
DeSantis also declared August 1, 2025, as “Hulk Hogan Day,” recognizing the wrestling icon as a “true Floridian.” The order applies from sunrise to sunset at the State Capitol in Tallahassee and at all state and local buildings, facilities, and grounds throughout Pinellas County, where Hogan lived in Clearwater.
“His larger-than-life personality will be missed, as the ‘Hulkster’ was an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s as well as today,” DeSantis said in a statement. “He was a true Floridian through and through.”
“In honor of a great Floridian, Hulk Hogan, we are lowering the flags at the capitol and in Pinellas County tomorrow. Additionally, I am officially declaring tomorrow, August 1st, 2025, as ‘Hulk Hogan Day’ in Florida. Rest in peace, brother,” DeSantis posted on X.
Hogan reportedly suffered cardiac arrest at his Clearwater home on July 24th. Emergency services transported him to a hospital, where he later died.
President Donald Trump also paid tribute to Hogan, writing on Truth Social:
“We lost a great friend today, the ‘Hulkster.’ Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way — Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart. He gave an absolutely electric speech at the Republican National Convention, that was one of the highlights of the entire week.”
“He entertained fans from all over the World, and the cultural impact he had was massive. To his wife, Sky, and family, we give our warmest best wishes and love. Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed!” Trump added.
