DC Comics has terminated its Batman spin-off series “Red Hood” following backlash over writer Gretchen Felker-Martin’s social media posts mocking the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Despite the ensuing controversy, Felker-Martin has reaffirmed her stance.

The cancellation came after screenshots of Felker-Martin’s provocative tweets surfaced, in which she joked about Kirk’s death, expressing hope that the bullet was “okay” after hitting him and referring to him as a “Nazi b—h.” A DC Comics spokesperson confirmed the series’ cancellation, affecting all existing and future issues. Retailers were reportedly allowed to return any copies they had received, as the first issue had already been distributed.

In a blog post on Patreon addressing the backlash, Felker-Martin stated, “Two days ago, I made a glib joke about Kirk’s death. It was irresistible to me. I stand by the sentiment of what I said. Kirk was evil. He can no longer hurt us, even if his cruelty will linger like a bad smell for decades to come.”

Felker-Martin also expressed in an interview with The Comics Journal that she has “no regrets” about her comments regarding Kirk, stating, “I’ve listened to Charlie Kirk being an overt Nazi for years of my life, and I had no regrets for what I said about him.”

Prior to the Kirk incident, Felker-Martin’s social media activity had raised concerns among her superiors at DC Comics, especially following media coverage of her alleged celebration of the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023, which resulted in over a thousand innocent Israeli deaths.

A DC Comics spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “At DC Comics, we place the highest value on our creators and community and affirm the right to peaceful, individual expression of personal viewpoints. Posts or public comments that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct.”

Felker-Martin did acknowledge that she experienced “a moment of poor impulse control” when making her remarks about Kirk. “I can only put it down to really just a moment of poor impulse control,” she explained. “Had I thought for another second, of course I would’ve known [that it would be a problem for DC], and naturally, as soon as I had said it, I did know.”

Nonetheless, her Patreon comments reflected a lack of remorse. “To say that Kirk was hoisted by his own petard in the most literal sense of the idiom… is to reduce the scope of his evil for the sake of a glib summary,” she wrote. “The violent hypocrisy of men like Kirk makes that glibness almost irresistible, but behind it is a much larger and more pressing truth, a vital illustration of how violence is brought into the world, what we expect that violence to do, and who is permitted to create and wield it.”

In addition to her work on “Red Hood,” Felker-Martin has contributed to Time Magazine and published several bestselling science-fiction and horror novels. One of her books, titled “Manhunt,” fictionalizes the murder of anti-transgender activist J.K. Rowling, depicting her death when her castle catches fire.

Fox News Digital reached out to Felker-Martin’s representatives for comment but did not receive a response.
