Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was interrupted by an anti-Israel protester shouting “F—ing Jews” during a congressional hearing on Tuesday, focused on addressing “hate” in America. During the Senate Judiciary Committee session titled, “A Threat to Justice Everywhere: Stemming the Tide of Hate Crimes in America,” Cruz highlighted the surge in antisemitism following the events of October 7. He detailed incidents on college campuses where Jewish students were targeted and criticized the Biden administration for not taking stronger action.
As Cruz spoke about the rise in hate, a protester disrupted the hearing with antisemitic slurs and was promptly removed.
Cruz used the incident to illustrate the kind of hatred he was discussing, noting, “This is the kind of anger and hate that is encouraged.” He pressed Mark Goldfeder, the director of the National Jewish Advocacy Center, on whether any universities have faced consequences for fostering such hostility, with Goldfeder confirming no indictments or funding cuts had been made.
Cruz emphasized how colleges have become “incubators of hatred of Jews,” citing several alarming examples, including violent threats against Jewish students and pro-Hamas celebrations.
He also referenced the increase in antisemitic incidents, as tracked by the Anti-Defamation League, and called out the Biden administration for its perceived inaction.
