In a striking social media post on Saturday, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino revealed that what he has uncovered during internal investigations has deeply disturbed him, saying it “shocked me down to my core.”
Bongino, formerly a conservative podcaster, has had a turbulent tenure at the FBI. Tensions with Attorney General Pam Bondi over handling files connected to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein once sparked rumors about his potential resignation. More recently, Bongino’s public updates have focused on arrests and FBI activity, projecting an image of law enforcement effectiveness.
But on Saturday, he pulled back the curtain on a darker reality.
“During my tenure here as the Deputy Director of the FBI, I have repeatedly relayed to you that things are happening that might not be immediately visible, but they are happening,” Bongino wrote.
He added that he and FBI Director Kash Patel are “committed to stamping out public corruption and the political weaponization of both law enforcement and intelligence operations. It is a priority for us.”
Bongino then made a chilling admission: “But what I have learned in the course of our properly predicated and necessary investigations into these aforementioned matters has shocked me down to my core. We cannot run a Republic like this. I’ll never be the same after learning what I’ve learned.”
Despite the gravity of his words, he assured followers that the truth will eventually be revealed, urging patience.
“We are going to conduct these righteous and proper investigations by the book and in accordance with the law. We are going to get the answers WE ALL DESERVE,” he said.
“As with any investigation, I cannot predict where it will land, but I can promise you an honest and dignified effort at truth. Not ‘my truth,’ or ‘your truth,’ but THE TRUTH. God bless America, and all those who defend Her.”
His remarks followed a more upbeat update the day before, in which he touted FBI achievements, including supporting Homeland Security with over 21,900 immigration-related arrests. He also highlighted progress in violent crime, gang activity, and fentanyl seizures.
Commentators were quick to react to his stark warning. Benny Johnson posted, “This is the most chilling admission I’ve ever seen from inside the FBI… It goes so much deeper than we ever thought.”
James O’Keefe echoed the sentiment, writing, “We have a right to know what it is that ‘shocks Dan Bongino to his core.’ Many people probably can’t handle that truth, but at this point more harm would come from not having it.”
Fox News reported that past statements of this nature from DOJ officials have often preceded significant, and sometimes controversial, developments.
