Recent reports from local press reveal that earlier this month, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a raid at the residence of a progressive Tampa politician and her blogger husband, in connection with a prominent hack on Tucker Carlson.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the FBI searched the home of Tampa City Council member Lynn Hurtak and her husband, media consultant Tim Burke, as part of an ongoing investigation into the security breaches targeting Fox News.
Hurtak, known for her far-left progressive stance, currently serves on Tampa’s City Council and has affiliations with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and other socialist organizations. She has been vocal about her pro-abortion stance and has previously expressed support for defunding the police, although sources indicate that her position has since evolved towards a “community policing” model.
Timothy Burke, her husband, is a blogger, media consultant, and former editor for The Daily Beast, which played a role in disseminating some of the leaked information related to Carlson. He maintains influence through his media consulting company, Burke Communications, which has been offline since the day of the raid.
The investigation is in response to a series of high-profile leaks involving Carlson that were acquired by the left-wing media advocacy group Media Matters. These leaks are believed to be the result of a hack on Fox News that occurred last year. Media Matters has released numerous videos with the apparent goal of embarrassing Carlson, including behind-the-scenes footage. Additionally, Vice, another media outlet, has published unaired footage from Carlson’s interview with Kanye West, which is also believed to be connected to these hacks.
Despite their involvement in disseminating the leaked information, authorities have stated that neither Vice nor Media Matters are suspected of any criminal wrongdoing in relation to this ongoing investigation.
As of now, Councilwoman Hurtak’s office has not responded to requests for comment.
