At a Saturday night fundraiser in Los Angeles, President Joe Biden highlighted the potential significance of the upcoming November election, attended by major Hollywood celebrities and former President Barack Obama.
Biden stressed the importance of the election, noting that the next president could have the opportunity to appoint two Supreme Court justices. Reflecting on the impact of previous appointments, Biden pointed out that former President Trump had already appointed two justices whose decisions have been, in his view, detrimental to individual rights.
Biden also criticized Justice Samuel Alito, referencing the controversy over the flags displayed at his residences. He expressed concern over the possibility of Trump appointing more justices, describing it as a troubling prospect. Biden made these comments while appearing alongside Obama and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who moderated the discussion.
To date, Biden has appointed one Supreme Court justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson, compared to Trump’s three appointments: Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. Should Trump win the upcoming election and Biden’s prediction come to pass, Trump would have appointed over half the Supreme Court justices during his two terms.
In a previous campaign event in Philadelphia, Biden committed to nominating “progressive judges” to any future Supreme Court vacancies. The Los Angeles fundraiser, featuring Hollywood stars like Julia Roberts and George Clooney, reportedly raised $28 million.
