Alina Habba, attorney and spokesperson for former President Donald Trump, alleged that Democrats are pursuing legal action against the Republican presidential candidate because they are unable to defeat him in elections.
During remarks at the New York State Supreme Court Building in Manhattan following the commencement of arguments in the hush money case, she criticized the use of both criminal and civil courts against Trump, asserting that it undermines the integrity of the American judicial system.
Habba expressed discontent with the presence of two legal teams in court, arguing that Trump has committed no wrongdoing and characterizing the situation as a witch hunt.
She mentioned her recent appearance in another court where Trump faces allegations of inflating asset values to obtain favorable loans, a case for which he was initially required to post a $454 million bond. However, an appellate court later reduced this amount to $175 million, which Judge Arthur Engoron accepted on Monday, preventing New York Attorney General Letitia James from seizing Trump’s assets during the appeal process.
Habba criticized Judge Engoron, accusing him of lacking understanding of basic financial principles and asserting that he and James were misguided in their actions.
Regarding the hush money case, in which Trump is accused of falsifying business records, Habba dismissed it as a joke and an insult to the judicial system.
Expressing frustration with the media’s coverage, she suggested that the legal actions against Trump are motivated by fear of the 2024 elections and emphasized that the American people are aware of the situation.
