Former Congressman George Santos shared an emotional message on social media on Friday following President Donald Trump’s decision to commute his prison sentence.

In a detailed post, Santos referred to the moment as a “second chance at life,” attributing this new beginning to both his faith and Trump’s intervention.

Santos began by thanking “our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” acknowledging that his life has been filled with “mistakes” and “stumbles,” yet he emphasized that his faith remained unwavering.

He characterized God’s grace as the support that helped him through his darkest times, viewing his release as an opportunity for personal growth and change.

However, it was his commendation of Trump that garnered significant attention.

Santos disclosed that he had a direct conversation with the President earlier that day, describing it as unforgettable. He depicted Trump not only as a strong leader but also as a figure who embodies mercy and redemption.

According to Santos, Trump’s decision stemmed from a wish to restore the possibility of renewal for someone who had experienced a fall from grace. “His kindness, his humanity, and his generosity toward my family and me touched me deeply,” Santos remarked, noting that Trump had rekindled his faith in second chances.

The former congressman, who represented New York’s 3rd District before facing expulsion and legal issues, also expressed gratitude to friends and allies who supported him throughout his trial and imprisonment. Although he refrained from naming individuals, he highlighted the existence of genuine friendships in Washington.

Looking forward, Santos committed to focusing on prison reform and government accountability, referencing his own adverse experiences with prison wardens whom he accused of dehumanizing treatment.

Santos described his time in prison as fraught with difficulties and unfair treatment, claiming he was subjected to harsher treatment due to his political notoriety. He argued that he was denied basic fairness, pointing to what he considered an excessive sentence and conditions that violated his rights.

He contends that his punishment was disproportionate relative to similar cases, asserting that he was treated as a political scapegoat rather than a typical inmate.

Santos framed his new mission as one centered on rehabilitation and dignity, arguing that no individual should endure degradation while serving time.

He concluded with a statement declaring that he is “back as a new man, ready to work and do good.” Whether the public perceives his transformation as authentic remains uncertain, but his message clearly indicates his intention to rebuild his life around the principles of redemption, reform, and gratitude to Trump.
