TGP Investigative Journalist Cara Castronuova made a significant impact during a bilateral meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Friday.
As reported by Jordan Conradson from The Gateway Pundit, this high-profile meeting took place in the Cabinet Room, differing from the usual Oval Office setting for discussions with foreign leaders.
Amidst Trump’s previous suggestions of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine for offensive operations via NATO, Castronuova raised a pertinent question about Zelenskyy’s willingness to reciprocate for such support in the effort to conclude the war.
“Both sides have to make concessions,” she stated. “Our president has stuck out his neck in many ways to make peace for your war as well.”
She then inquired, “What specific concessions are you willing to make to end this war with Russia? Will you give up joining NATO?”
“Americans have foreign war fatigue. And as our president said – we need our Tomahawks too,” she emphasized.
Zelenskyy appeared taken aback and asked, “To me?”
“That’s some question!” Trump reacted enthusiastically.
Zelenskyy replied, “First of all, we need to sit and speak. The second point, we need a ceasefire… We want peace. Putin doesn’t want.” He added, “That’s why we need pressure on him. We will speak about what we need today.”
However, he did not directly address the essence of Castronuova’s question, instead reiterating familiar talking points, which raises doubts about his commitment to achieving a lasting peace with Russia.
Since Russia’s invasion in February 2022, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands on both sides. The United States has significantly depleted its weapons stockpile to support the Ukrainian military against a stronger opponent, a situation that cannot persist indefinitely.
On a positive note, Trump has positioned himself as the ‘Peace President,’ having ended eight wars globally, with two peace deals in his first term and six in his current term. If anyone can compel both Putin and Zelenskyy to negotiate a ceasefire, it is Trump.
