Former President Donald Trump stomped on Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) during a Saturday rally in Casper, Wyoming.
Mr. Trump conducted his “Save America” rally to support Rep. Cheney’s primary opponent, Harriet Hageman. Ms. Hageman, a Conservative attorney has been endorsed by Trump and congressional Republicans like Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
“Few members of Congress in history have personally caused more damage and destruction to our Republican Party” Trump said about Cheney. “She’s aided and abetted the radical Democrat Party in one of the most unhinged, lawless and dangerous witch hunts of all time.” The 45th president was referring to the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
Trump has focused on Cheney, as one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach him for his alleged role in the Jan. 6 riot. She made his blood boil even more when she accused Trump of threatening democracy with his claims the 2020 general election was stolen. Then, she joined the committee investigating the Capitol riot.
Cheney made her reelection bid official Thursday and later posted an online video asking for support from Wyoming voters.
“If our generation does not stand for truth, the rule of law, and our Constitution, if we set aside our founding principles for the politics of the moment, the miracle of our constitutional republic will slip away,” she said, according to a Star Tribune report.. “We must not let that happen.”
Trump lumped the Wyoming representative with her father, Dick Cheney, the former vice-president in the George W. Bush administration.
Trump called Cheney the “face of the Washington swamp” and blasted the hawkish foreign policy of past administrations. He accused them of being warmongers who have been plunging the U.S. into wars for decades. The 45th president said the Cheney’s policies have cost Americans blood and money.
“The Cheneys have never met a war they didn’t like,” Trump declared. “That’s why Liz Cheney is now at the front of the parade of trying to get us to go into wars with Russia or anyone else who wants to bite.”
A poll commissioned by the Club for Growth Political Action Committee was released Thursday showing Hageman with a commanding lead over Cheney. The approximately 400 likely primary voters sampled gave Hageman a 30 percent lead over Cheney, at 56-36 percent.
