President Donald Trump pushed back at a reporter on Wednesday who claimed he has taken “no action” against Russia since assuming office.
The exchange occurred during a bilateral meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki at the White House. A reporter from Polish media suggested Trump had only offered words of criticism against Russian President Vladimir Putin but no tangible measures.
“You have expressed many times your frustration and disappointment with Putin, but there’s no action since you took your office,” the reporter said.
“How do you know there’s no action? Really? Wait, wait, who are you with?” Trump replied.
When told the reporter was with Polish media, Trump countered: “Would you say that putting secondary sanctions on India, the largest purchaser outside of China – they’re almost equal – would you say that was no action? That cost hundreds of billions of dollars to Russia. You call that no action?”
He added, “I haven’t done phase two yet or phase three, but when you say there’s no action you ought to get yourself a new job.”
The comments came after Trump accused Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un of “conspiring” against the U.S. during their joint meetings in China this week.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote: “The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and ‘blood’ that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader. Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice! May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration. Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.”
The military parade in Beijing marked the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II, with China showcasing its military strength and solidifying alliances. Kim Jong Un’s presence was notable as it was his first visit to Beijing since 2019.
Trump also expressed disappointment that Xi did not thank the U.S. for its role in Japan’s defeat during World War II.
