House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) on Monday called former President Bill Clinton “a prime suspect” in the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein investigation and pledged to uncover the truth about Clinton’s reported frequent visits to Epstein Island.
Last week, Comer announced that the Committee had issued subpoenas to several high-profile political figures and officials. He shared the news on X, stating:
The House Oversight Committee is compelling the following individuals to appear for depositions through issued subpoenas:
- Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton: October 9
- Former President Bill Clinton: October 14
- Former U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland: October 2
- Former FBI Director James Comey: October 7
- Former U.S. Attorney General William Barr: August 18
- Former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales: August 26
- Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions: August 28
- Former FBI Director Robert Mueller: September 2
- Former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch: September 9
- Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder: September 30
According to a press release, on July 23, 2025, members of both parties on the Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee approved by voice vote a motion from Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) to subpoena Bill and Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, Robert Mueller, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales.
An amended motion from Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) passed 8–2, directing the Chairman to subpoena the Department of Justice for records related to the Epstein case. Additional amendments from Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) to include communications between President Biden or his administration and the DOJ regarding Epstein, and from Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) to protect the identities of victims and redact any child sexual abuse material, were adopted by voice vote.
Speaking with Newsmax host Rob Finnerty, Comer emphasized that the investigation is not a political stunt, saying the American people deserve to know what happened on Epstein’s private island.
Rob Finnerty asked:
“I just want to ask you one question, Mr. Chairman. The American people want to know what happened on Epstein Island. I’m not going to drop this topic. You’ve subpoenaed Bill Clinton. He’s going to fight you tooth and nail with the best lawyers in the country, in some cases. Do you think Bill Clinton ever actually testifies? I think his date is—what—October 12th?”
Comer replied:
“Yes. I think we have a very good chance at this. I’ve never lost a subpoena battle. I’ve been chairman of that committee for a year and a half. This is the most challenging subpoena I’ve ever issued.
But what makes this subpoena different is that the Democrats voted with Republicans. This is a bipartisan, congressionally approved subpoena, and I think that will hold a lot of weight in court.
You’re absolutely right—he’s going to have the best lawyers in America fighting us tooth and toenail on this. But the fact that this was voted on by Republicans and Democrats—because we’re hearing from our constituents—means everybody in America wants to know what went on at Epstein Island.
We’ve all heard reports that Bill Clinton was a frequent visitor there. He’s a prime suspect to be deposed by the House Oversight. Hopefully, we’ll win that court battle with that subpoena and see President Clinton in October.”
Comer has underscored that bipartisan support strengthens the investigation and expressed confidence Clinton will not be able to avoid testifying. “He’s a prime suspect to be deposed,” Comer said.
