In a recent Daily Mail article, the headline “Trump starts firing purge of top FBI agents opposed to his administration as they decry ‘retribution’” framed the recently dismissed FBI agents as victims — but left out key details showing that at least two of them were far more than just “opposed” to Trump.
Steven Jensen and Walter Giardina both served under the previous administration — and in Giardina’s case, he appeared willing to go to great lengths to prevent Trump from becoming president.
Brian Driscoll, appointed as acting FBI director in January 2025, was replaced by Kash Patel. Jensen, who led the FBI’s Washington field office, played a central role in the January 6 investigation.
“Gone. No, thank you. We don’t need that anymore. No, we’re not into political persecution,” Gonzales said.
Giardina, a special agent, investigated Trump adviser Peter Navarro and was heavily involved in Crossfire Hurricane, the Mueller probe, and cases involving Dan Scavino, Roger Stone, and Hillary Clinton.
A June press release from Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley’s office revealed further troubling information. According to the release, Giardina “was an initial recipient of the Steele dossier and falsely said that the report was corroborated as true,” openly expressed animosity toward Trump, and admitted his personal motivation to investigate him.
It also stated that Giardina “electronically wiped the laptop he was assigned while working for special counsel Mueller outside of established protocol for record preservation, raising the possibility that he destroyed government records” and “instructed agents to use false Emolument predication on President Trump to ‘dig around.’”
Giardina was also a case agent on the Crimson River case, later renamed Red Maasari, which was leaked to the Washington Post “roughly 90 days before the presidential election, in an attempt to falsely discredit President Trump.”
“That means they knew it was not true, and they wanted to discredit him anyway,” Gonzales said.
“I am hopeful that that is going to trickle down. It just can’t stop here,” she added.
