Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a temporary ceasefire with Russia in the wake of recent bombings on Russian airfields.
Zelenskyy stated, “My proposal, which we offer and which I believe our partners can support, is the following: We propose to the Russians a ceasefire until the leaders meet. We offer a meeting on any day starting Monday.”
He explained the reasoning behind the proposal: “Why a ceasefire before the leaders meet? Because we can meet, and if there is no mutual understanding, if there is no desire to de-escalate, if there is no will or vision on how to end it, then the ceasefire will end that same day.”
Zelenskyy also emphasized that the ceasefire “can be initiated unilaterally by the Russians. Feel free to do it.”
