After contributing roughly $260 million to support President Trump and Republican candidates in 2024, Elon Musk announced Tuesday that he plans to significantly reduce his political spending moving forward, stating, “I think I’ve done enough.” While he left open the possibility of future contributions, Musk made it clear he does not currently anticipate further major involvement.

Musk’s super PAC, America, played a strategic role in key battleground states—particularly Pennsylvania—helping to secure victories for Trump and deliver a Republican-controlled House and Senate. However, the group fell short in a closely contested judicial race in Wisconsin earlier this year.

Musk also recently stepped down from his advisory role in the Trump administration, where he served as a Special Government Employee leading the DOGE initiative. He cited the need to refocus on his business ventures, particularly Tesla, which has come under attack due to Musk’s outspoken efforts to reform government spending.

His comments on political spending came during a remote interview with Bloomberg at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha.

“I think, in terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” Musk said. When asked why, he replied, “I think I’ve done enough.” He added that he may revisit the issue if circumstances change: “Well, if I see a reason to do political spending in the future, I will do it. I do not currently see a reason.”

Musk also reaffirmed his intention to remain CEO of Tesla for the next five years and addressed ongoing debates over his compensation and involvement with DOGE.

Responding to criticism and threats stemming from his DOGE work, Musk said, “I’ve not harmed anyone.” He expressed continued concern over the violent attacks and threats directed at Tesla and himself, vowing accountability for those responsible: “Don’t worry, we’re coming for you!”
