Far-left Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) responded with a controversial statement directed at the American people after a GOP congressman called for her arrest and deportation to Somalia.
As reported by The Gateway Pundit, Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) circulated a petition earlier this month urging the arrest and deportation of Omar for treason. Gill, a first-term Congressman and son-in-law of conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, encouraged supporters to sign the petition in a fundraising email.
Omar, the first Somali American elected to Congress, entered the United States in 1995 during the Somali Civil War as a refugee. She became a U.S. citizen at 17, though allegations have surfaced that she married her brother to obtain a green card.
During an interview with Zeteo’s Mehdi Hasan on Sunday, Omar addressed Gill’s remarks, launching a scathing critique of Trump supporters and Americans who deviate from leftist ideologies.
A transcript of the conversation, courtesy of Real Clear Politics, reveals the exchange:
“You and I have discussed people attacking you in the past, but you have this new freshman Congressional Representative, this lawmaker Brandon Gill, Republican, who tweeted out that video of you and wrote America would be a better place if Ilhan Omar were deported back to Somalia,” Hasan began. “I mean, I thought I’d seen everything, and I’ve seen a lot of attacks on you.”
“But now you have a Republican colleague, dare I say, in the House saying to deport an American citizen, an American lawmaker, and an elected representative. How do you deal with that?” he asked.
Omar responded by dismissing Gill and her critics as “idiots.”
“These people are just idiots,” Omar replied. “I really am at the point where it has become really hard to have an intellectual debate with any of these people because the level of stupidity that they are displaying every single day is frankly embarrassing.”
She then escalated her criticism, targeting the intelligence of the American people for electing Trump.
“Not just in Congress but as Americans, and the fact that these people are allowed to say just the most ridiculous things tells you that the dumbing of the United States has arrived because how else do we get a Trump presidency again?”
