Kevin Morris, a Hollywood attorney known as Hunter Biden’s “sugar brother,” will not face disbarment after allegations he infiltrated a film project about the Biden family’s foreign business dealings, The Post has learned.
Filmmaker Phelim McAleer accused Morris, 61, of misrepresenting himself while investigating the production of My Son Hunter in Serbia, filing a bar complaint against him in 2022.
“He used deceit to secure such access by not disclosing he was Mr. Biden’s lawyer. Mr. Morris used his cover as a documentary filmmaker to conceal his true purpose: performing legal investigative work on behalf of his client, Mr. Hunter Biden,” McAleer wrote in his complaint.
The state bar association dismissed the complaint in a Dec. 26 letter to Morris’ attorney.
“The State Bar has completed the investigation of the allegations of professional misconduct reported by Phelim McAleer. We have determined that this matter does not warrant further action. Therefore, the matter is closed,” wrote investigator Hannah Calacsan.
Morris, who has reportedly provided Hunter Biden with at least $6.5 million in financial support, said the decision vindicated him while criticizing McAleer’s project.
“This action by Phelim McAleer was just another example of the way extremist right-wing activists have behaved over the last number of years,” Morris said. “They made a nasty movie about the Bidens and were embarrassed that they allowed themselves to be caught in the act. I’m well aware of the rules of professional conduct and have never had a single complaint in my 36 years of practice. Yet, the publicizing of this frivolous complaint was a hassle and hurtful to my reputation. We did nothing wrong, something they probably understood years ago.”
McAleer vowed to appeal, arguing the bar investigation failed to thoroughly examine his claims.
“It really is nice to be a Biden and a friend of the Biden Golden Circle,” McAleer said. “The Bar Council has delivered another pardon for those in the Biden circle of influence. Despite taking two years to investigate, they never approached me—if they had, I could have pointed out the obvious lies they were told.”
McAleer claims Morris was cleared due to uncertainty over whether he represented Hunter Biden at the time of the alleged infiltration. During testimony to Congress earlier this year, Morris stated, “Hunter is my client,” while telling the bar association that he offered “legal advice” but that separate attorneys advised both him and Hunter.
Morris, whose wealth stems in part from representing the creators of South Park, has funded Hunter Biden’s legal and personal expenses since meeting him at a late-2019 fundraiser. He told Congress he expects to be repaid but has been vague about the total amount provided.
Republicans have filed other complaints against Morris, including one from the America First Legal Foundation, which accused him of using marijuana near Hunter Biden, a recovering addict, and improperly serving as both his attorney and financial benefactor. The status of those complaints remains unclear.
The political scrutiny surrounding Hunter Biden and his uncle James Biden’s foreign dealings has lessened since President Biden announced his decision not to seek re-election in July. House Republicans concluded their impeachment inquiry into the president in August, and President Biden recently issued a blanket pardon for Hunter Biden following his guilty pleas to gun and tax crimes earlier this year.
