Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) made waves again after a fiery exchange with Alex Lawson, executive director of the progressive advocacy group Social Security Works. The confrontation occurred outside a meeting where Greene was preparing to discuss recommendations for President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed Department of Government Efficiency.
Greene later described the encounter as a confrontation with a “Democrat PAC operative,” dismissing it as a “political ambush” aimed at creating ammunition for Democratic attack ads. Lawson had attempted to pressure Greene into pledging to oppose any cuts to Social Security and Medicare—an approach she called a stunt.
This clash comes shortly after Trump promised in a recent Meet the Press interview to improve government efficiency without cutting federal entitlements like Social Security or Medicare.
During their exchange, Lawson handed Greene printed materials he claimed were linked to Trump’s promises to protect Social Security. Greene, however, rejected the materials and accused Lawson of advancing a partisan agenda.
Alex Lawson: Congresswoman…
Marjorie Taylor Greene: He’s funded by a Democrat PAC, donates 100% to Democrats, and is only here to make…
Alex Lawson: We’re bipartisan.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: No, you’re not. We looked you up. You are 100% funded by Democrats. You donate to Democrats. You’re out here asking bullsht questions.
Alex Lawson: What is the bullsht question?
Marjorie Taylor Greene: All of your questions.
Alex Lawson: This is a mailing from… This is Donald Trump.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: You’re only one-sided. You don’t care about the American people.
When Lawson insisted that the document came from Trump, Greene grabbed the paper, tossed it aside, and dismantled his argument further.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: President Trump, we all campaigned on protecting seniors’ Social Security. You can’t lie about it. See, this is your political agenda. We don’t care… You’re not media.
Alex Lawson: That’s Donald Trump’s mailing.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: No, this right here is for Democrat ads to attack Republicans… That’s what your agenda is.
Alex Lawson: It’s really simple.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: No, it’s not simple… You’re a liar.
Alex Lawson: Will you pledge to take Social Security and Medicare cuts off the table?
Marjorie Taylor Greene: I don’t need to take a pledge because we’ve already done that all year long. And guess what? The sad story for you is the American people elected Trump, his agenda, and Republicans to lead the country because you guys suck so bad.
Afterward, Greene addressed the confrontation on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Democrat PACs are lurking in the halls of Congress trying to do ‘gotcha’ interviews with Republicans. I wasn’t having it.” She reinforced her claim that Social Security Works operates as a partisan group.
