Former President Donald Trump has pulled ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris in New Hampshire, according to a New Hampshire Journal/Praecones Analytica poll released Sunday. The last time a Republican presidential candidate won New Hampshire was over two decades ago, when George W. Bush ran in 2000.
Trump now leads with 50.2%, while Harris trails slightly at 49.8%, according to the poll. Although the margin is narrow, this poll could be an early warning for Democrats, who have won seven out of the last eight presidential elections in the state.
“There’s a reason Kamala Harris has been spending money in New Hampshire,” said Karoline Leavitt, a Trump campaign spokesperson and New Hampshire native, in her statement to the New Hampshire Journal. “She’s on defense and knows President Trump is on the path to victory.”
Trump lost New Hampshire to President Joe Biden in 2020 by 7.3% and to Hillary Clinton in 2016 by only 0.3%. Former President Barack Obama won the state by 5.6% in 2012 and 9.6% in 2008. However, recent polling indicates that Trump’s favorability among independents may be helping him gain an edge in the traditionally blue state, despite New Hampshire having a higher percentage of Democratic-leaning voters.
“To my fellow Granite Staters who want to keep our beautiful state safe, business-friendly, and free — get out and vote for President Trump,” Leavitt urged. “Kamala is a radical liberal who would destroy New Hampshire and America forever.”
