Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), currently running for Senate in Michigan, has acknowledged concerns about Kamala Harris’s standing in her state. According to a report from Axios, Slotkin’s campaign’s internal polling shows that Harris is “underwater” with likely voters in Michigan.
The report states:
“Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) warned donors last week that internal polling for her Senate campaign shows Vice President Kamala Harris is ‘underwater’ in Michigan, according to a video clip obtained by Axios. … ‘I’m not feeling my best right now about where we are on Kamala Harris in a place like Michigan,’ Slotkin said during a virtual fundraiser on Wednesday with Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), according to a recording. ‘We have her underwater in our polling,’ Slotkin added.” Spokespeople for Slotkin’s campaign declined to comment on the matter.
Slotkin, who represents Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, is running against former Rep. Mike Rogers, and a Republican win could secure control of the Senate.
Michigan, a key swing state with a sizable Muslim population, has become a challenging battleground for Harris due to backlash over the administration’s lukewarm support for Israel, which some view as complicity in the conflict in Gaza.
Earlier this year, during the Democratic primary, over 100,000 voters marked “uncommitted” on their ballots, largely in protest of Biden’s stance on Israel, which accounted for about 13% of the turnout. If these voters, disillusioned with the administration, decide not to back Harris, it could potentially swing the state — and the White House — to Donald Trump.
