Police are actively responding to a terrifying active shooter situation along I-75 near London in Laurel County, Kentucky, according to local officials and eyewitnesses. At least 5 people have been shot, with fears of more victims, as the shooter remains on the loose.
The chaos erupted just before 6 p.m. on Saturday when an unknown gunman fired from an elevated position along Interstate 75, striking multiple vehicles.
“I-75 is closed at mile marker/Exit 49, and U.S. 25, nine miles north of London due to an active shooter situation,” the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. “Numerous persons have been shot near I-75.”
Kentucky State Police Trooper Scottie Pennington said the suspect is still at large and urged residents to stay indoors. “We are urging people to stay inside,” he stated. “We will try our best to get you as much information as it becomes available!!”
Preliminary reports indicate at least 5 people – potentially more – have been shot, some suffering serious injuries. “The victims have been shot through the windshields,” dispatch revealed.
Governor Andy Beshear took to X to address the situation: “I am receiving initial reports from the Kentucky State Police and our Office of Homeland Security — together we are actively monitoring the situation and offering support in any way possible. Please pray for everyone involved.”
