Democratic Senate Candidate Criticizes Opponent for Election Denial, Despite Own Past of Questioning Results

Ted Cruz Engages in a Twitter Argument with AOC: ‘The Dem Party Founded the KKK…Wrote Jim Crow Laws’

In a major Senate race, Democratic candidate Rep. Colin Allred, who has accused his opponent Sen. Ted Cruz of refusing to commit to accepting election results, has a record of questioning election legitimacy himself. Allred criticized Cruz for his reluctance to pledge acceptance of the upcoming election results, but he has previously expressed doubts about election integrity.

During a recent attack on Cruz for his comments on CNN, Allred emphasized the importance of democracy and accused Cruz of treating it as a partisan issue. Cruz countered by highlighting that the media seldom challenges Democrats on accepting election outcomes and defended the legal provisions for contesting results.

In the past, Allred has voiced concerns over election security. In August 2019, he cited the Mueller report to claim that Russian interference affected the 2016 election and questioned the legitimacy of future elections. He suggested the need for paper trails for electronic voting systems to ensure credibility. In subsequent public appearances, Allred warned about potential foreign influence in upcoming elections and the risks of voter roll manipulation and vote tampering.

Following the 2020 election, Allred continued to warn about election integrity, suggesting in a 2022 interview that results in future elections might be questionable and hinting at possible election subversion in the 2022 and 2024 elections.

When asked if Allred would accept the results of the 2024 election, his campaign did not respond directly. Instead, a spokesperson reiterated that Cruz was the one who attempted to overturn a fair election, referencing Cruz’s actions on January 6, 2021, and asserting that Texas voters would hold him accountable in the upcoming election.
