Over the weekend, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) came to the defense of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for his involvement in Israeli elections, suggesting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had attempted to interfere in U.S. elections, although she provided no evidence to support this claim.
During an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Dana Bash, Pelosi discussed Netanyahu’s reaction to Schumer’s actions aimed at influencing the outcome of the Israeli elections.
Pelosi expressed her surprise at Netanyahu’s rhetoric, citing his alleged attempts to meddle in American elections in the past. Despite this, she redirected the conversation to focus on the importance of advocating for democratic elections, highlighting the participation of thousands of people in Israeli demonstrations.
Pelosi emphasized the value of diverse viewpoints in a democracy and questioned Netanyahu’s reluctance to acknowledge the need for the Israeli people to have a voice in their country’s future, echoing Schumer’s sentiments.
