Preeminent Poll Signals Peril for Biden Prior to Potential Trump Rematch

A recent survey reveals a significant majority of participants—62% of men and 68% of women—feel that the United States is on the wrong track under President Joe Biden.

Published jointly by The New York Times and Siena College, this survey holds the top spot among numerous others, according to the pollster ratings by 538.

Released over the weekend, this poll presents formidable challenges for Biden as he approaches the 2024 general election.

In terms of voting preferences, if the 2024 presidential election were held today, 48% of respondents indicated they would vote for former President Donald Trump, while only 43% expressed support for Biden.

Furthermore, 48% expressed confidence in Trump’s potential victory, whereas only 39% believed Biden would win.

Regarding the impact of policies, only 18% reported that Biden’s policies personally benefited them, while 43% felt his policies harmed them personally.

In contrast, 40% mentioned that Trump’s policies personally helped them, with only 25% stating that they were personally harmed by his policies.

“Polling continues to be at odds with how Americans vote, and consistently overestimates Donald Trump while underestimating President Biden,” Biden Campaign Communications Director Michael Tyler claimed in response to the poll.

“Whether it’s in special elections or in the presidential primaries, actual voter behavior tells us a lot more than any poll does and it tells a very clear story: Joe Biden and Democrats continue to outperform while Donald Trump and the party he leads are weak, cash-strapped, and deeply divided,” he added. “Our campaign is ignoring the noise and running a strong campaign to win – just like we did in 2020.”

Speculation has arisen regarding the Democrats potentially substituting Biden as their nominee for the 2024 election.

A recent survey gauging alternative candidates to the 81-year-old Joe Biden unveiled Michelle Obama as the top pick among Democrats, surpassing figures like Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, and Hillary Clinton.

Obama garners significant backing, with 20% of Democrats viewing her as a preferable replacement for Biden. Nevertheless, the party’s preferences remain divided.
