The former president highlighted the connection with Milei, who expressed gratitude to Trump in a post-win phone call, attributing his success to Trump’s policies. While joking about “Make Argentina Great Again” hats, Trump underscored the impact of his administration’s policies on a global scale.
Reflecting on his 2016 victory and the rise of conservative populism, Trump noted that it wasn’t isolated but part of a broader global movement. The interview explored the ongoing momentum, with leaders like Giorgia Meloni currently serving as Italy’s prime minister and Milei’s significant win in Argentina.
Looking ahead to 2024, Trump expressed optimism for conservative populists worldwide, citing Geert Wilders’ party victory in the Netherlands and upcoming elections in Portugal and Austria. He emphasized the potential for a sweeping movement, aligning with a Foreign Policy magazine warning of a “Right-Wing Populism” surge in the West in 2024.
Trump reiterated that he sees himself as a messenger to this movement, emphasizing the need for leaders who share his vision to step up. While acknowledging the effectiveness of his policies, Trump pointed out that achieving them requires a tenacious fighter like himself, referencing former adviser Steve Bannon’s assertion that “there is no Trump policy without Trump.”
