On ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, former Trump official Alyssa Farah Griffin expressed her concern, stating that a potential second Trump term “could mean the end of American democracy as we know it.”
Anchor Jonathan Karl brought attention to President Trump’s statement about being a dictator on day one of his second term and continued the conversation with three women who served in his White House, seeking their perspectives on the implications of a Trump presidency for a second term.
Farah Griffin said, “Fundamentally, a second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it. I don’t say that lightly. We all witnessed him trying to steal a democratic election before and going to historic and unconstitutional lengths to do so, and that just shows that he’s willing to basically break every barrier to get into power and stay into power. Also, I’m very concerned about what the term would actually look like.”
Sarah Matthews, former deputy press secretary under Trump, emphasized, “Speculating on a second Trump term isn’t necessary; we’ve already witnessed it unfold. He consistently reinforces the claim that the election was stolen and fraudulent, and his rhetoric has become increasingly erratic. He has openly called for actions like dismantling parts of the Constitution and weaponizing the Department of Justice to seek revenge against his political adversaries.”
