In a recent survey querying respondents about their preferences in a hypothetical 2024 presidential matchup between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the overall results indicate a dead heat, with both candidates securing 43 percent support each, even when considering registered voters. However, when specifically examining independents, Trump takes the lead, boasting a six-point advantage over his presumed 2024 opponent, securing 38 percent support compared to Biden’s 32 percent, while 6 percent of independents remain undecided.
Consistent with findings from a previous survey, a higher proportion of independents (38 percent) believe Trump is more likely to win the 2024 presidential election, as opposed to Biden’s 26 percent, irrespective of their personal preferences. This sentiment extends across all respondents, with 42 percent expressing the belief that Trump would emerge victorious, compared to 36 percent who hold the same expectation for Biden.
It is noteworthy that the survey, conducted from December 16 to 18, 2023, among 1,500 U.S. adult citizens, occurred after the controversial ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court, which declared Trump disqualified from appearing on the state’s ballot. This ruling may have influenced the survey’s landscape, capturing sentiments amid this significant legal development.
“The court found by clear and convincing evidence that President Trump engaged in insurrection as those terms are used in Section Three” of the Fourteenth Amendment, the ruling, which the Trump campaign is appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court, reads in part.
Drawing from historical patterns, the recent endeavor by left-leaning factions to target Trump is anticipated to yield a similar outcome seen in the aftermath of numerous indictments faced by Trump in 2022 – a bolstering of his standing in the polls. This recurring phenomenon suggests that such attempts to scrutinize or challenge the former president tend to resonate positively with a considerable portion of the electorate.
Alina Habba, an attorney representing Trump, underscored that the recent actions taken by liberal judges in Colorado are likely to have the unintended consequence of mobilizing Trump’s base even further. Additionally, Habba anticipates a potential shift of independents toward Trump, potentially influencing their alignment in his favor. This strategic move by the liberal judges, intended to challenge Trump, may inadvertently contribute to the consolidation of support within his political base and attract independents to align with his political stance.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous, and it’s so desperate. It’s just so desperate. What they don’t realize is the more they do these desperate attempts to take Trump down, it emboldens the base and emboldens and flips the independent voters to vote for Trump because they’re afraid,” Habba said during a Wednesday appearance on Breitbart News Daily. “I mean, this one really sparked outrage.”
