Independent presidential candidate Dr. Cornel West has expressed his belief that President Biden may not proceed to the general election, as reported by a Friday Politico article. West suggested a scenario where Biden, like President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968, could unexpectedly withdraw from his reelection bid.
In an interview with Politico, West stated, “I’m not even sure whether I’ll be running against Biden. Biden — I think he’s going to have an LBJ moment [and] pull back.” Instead, West contemplated the possibility of running against other Democratic contenders, referring to them as the “B Team,” citing figures like California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. He acknowledged the fluidity of the situation, stating, “I’m open to those possibilities. He’s running out of gas.”
West did not reserve his critiques solely for Biden, as he also offered strong words for former President Donald Trump, describing him as a “bona fide gangsta, Neo-fascist, Pied Piper leading the country for the second civil war.” Regarding Biden, West characterized the 81-year-old president as a “milquetoast neoliberal with military adventurism, possibly leading the world toward World War III.”
Both Trump and Biden’s campaigns did not provide comments in response to Fox News Digital’s request.
West rejected the notion that his presidential run would serve as a “spoiler” for Democrats, asserting, “I don’t accept the spoiler category. A vote for Biden, a vote for Trump is a vote for Biden and a vote for Trump.” He argued that reaching non-regular voters and young people is the focus of his 2024 presidential campaign, emphasizing the importance of engaging with the 38 percent of Americans who don’t regularly participate in elections and addressing the growing cynicism among young people.
