Former President Donald Trump declared his endorsement for a ban on refugees from the Gaza Strip on Monday.

During a speech in Iowa, Trump expressed his intent to expand his “wildly successful” travel ban, targeting “terror-plagued countries, territories, and places,” should he be re-elected to the White House. He explicitly stated, “We aren’t bringing in anyone from Gaza, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, or Libya, or anywhere else that threatens our security.”

Furthermore, Trump pledged that if he were to serve a second term, his administration would immediately cease providing financial assistance to Palestinians and individuals he identified as terrorists. He also committed to supporting Israel in its efforts to combat Hamas.

In addition, he vowed to cancel the student visas of foreign students holding radical anti-American and antisemitic views at American colleges and universities. He also pledged to proactively send ICE agents to address pro-Jihadist demonstrations, enforce immigration laws, and remove violators from the country.

Trump is not the sole Republican presidential candidate advocating for a ban on Gaza refugees. Over the weekend, approximately a week after Hamas launched a deadly terrorist attack on Israel from Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 Americans and others, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared that the United States should not admit refugees from that region.

DeSantis stated, “We cannot accept people from Gaza into this country as refugees,” during an event in Iowa. He asserted that while not all of them are associated with Hamas, they are all generally anti-Semitic and do not support Israel’s right to exist. DeSantis also called on neighboring Arab countries to provide refuge for Gaza refugees.

Following Trump’s explicit declaration on Monday regarding an expanded travel ban that includes Gaza, Team DeSantis criticized Trump for adopting a position that DeSantis had taken three days earlier regarding Gaza refugees. They commended DeSantis’s leadership in this regard.

It’s important to note that Trump had previously advocated for the reinstatement and reinforcement of his travel ban, which had been reversed by President Joe Biden upon taking office.
