Former President Donald Trump has revealed that his wife, former First Lady Melania Trump, will join his 2024 presidential campaign trail “when the timing is appropriate.”
In an interview with NBC News’s Kristen Welker, Trump mentioned that Melania will make appearances “pretty soon,” marking her return to campaign events since Trump announced his 2024 candidacy in November 2022.
Trump expressed that Melania is a private and confident person who loves the country deeply. He emphasized that he prefers to keep her away from the political arena due to the negativity and hostility often associated with politics.
During this period, Melania has been spending time with their youngest son, Barron.
In contrast to previous presidential campaigns where Trump’s family members played prominent roles on the campaign trail, there has been less family involvement in his 2024 campaign.
While Trump’s sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., have actively promoted their father’s candidacy, Ivanka Trump has chosen not to campaign for him this time. Ivanka explained that she is prioritizing her young children and focusing on her family’s private life, opting not to be involved in politics.
However, she affirmed her continued love and support for her father but from outside the political arena.
Other Republican candidates, including Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, have actively involved their spouses in their campaigns and messaging.
Casey DeSantis, Governor DeSantis’s wife, has campaigned alongside him on numerous occasions, playing a significant role in his campaign efforts. Nikki Haley has highlighted her husband, Michael Haley, and his military service as a prominent aspect of her campaign, especially noting his recent deployment to Africa.
In the Republican primary, Donald Trump is the undisputed front-runner, leading by a substantial margin in the RealClearPolitics polling average. His closest competitor, Ron DeSantis, trails by more than 40 percentage points.
