Trump Campaign Accuses 14th Amendment Advocates of Employing ‘Lawfare’ to Limit Voter Choice in 2024

Despite Company’s Attempts, Special Counsel Gains Access to Trump’s Twitter Direct Messages

The Trump campaign has asserted that there is “no legal basis” to utilize the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to bar former President Trump from running in the 2024 presidential election.

They accuse those advocating for this approach of employing “lawfare” with the intention of restricting voters from selecting their next president.

Some individuals have put forth the argument that Trump could be disqualified from appearing on the 2024 presidential ballot due to the “Disqualifications Clause” in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

This clause prohibits individuals who have been involved in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or those who have aided such activities, from holding office.

However, the Trump campaign vehemently criticizes those who suggest that this legal theory could be used to impede Trump’s presidential candidacy.

According to a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, “Joe Biden, Democrats, and Never Trumpers are scared to death because they see polls showing President Trump winning in the general election.”

They further argue that those pursuing this theory are distorting the law, akin to what they perceive as political prosecutors in New York, Georgia, and Washington, D.C., doing.

The spokesperson continues, stating, “There is no legal basis for this effort except in the minds of those who are pushing it. This is nothing more than a blatant attempt by enemies of America to create fake excuses and use lawfare to deprive voters of choosing their next president.”

It’s worth noting that Trump is the first former U.S. president in history to face criminal charges. He has been indicted as part of various investigations, including those related to alleged interference in the 2020 election and the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot.

Trump is facing criminal charges in Georgia, New York, and a separate investigation into his alleged mishandling of classified documents conducted by special counsel Jack Smith.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which encompass allegations such as conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
