Amid the backdrop of President Joe Biden enjoying a break at his beachfront residence while Florida residents grappled with the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, his interaction with reporters on Sunday took on an impromptu tone.
President Biden, during his visit to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, disclosed to reporters that he was staying at his beach house due to ongoing security upgrades at his Wilmington residence.
This revelation occurred unexpectedly after he attended Mass at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church, as reported by Fox News.
The president explained that the Secret Service had undertaken security enhancements at his Wilmington home, leaving him with only his beach house as a place to reside during his weekend stay in Delaware. He emphasized that his stay was planned for just one day, as per the Fox News report.
He had previously mentioned these security upgrades in April.
President Biden’s trip to Delaware came after his assessment of the hurricane damage in Florida, altering his original Labor Day weekend plans to spend time in Rehoboth Beach.
Criticism has arisen from the Republican National Committee and GOP lawmakers due to President Biden’s frequent weekend getaways, despite a recent week-long vacation with his family in Nevada’s Lake Tahoe region.
When questioned by reporters about implying homelessness, President Biden clarified, stating, “No, I’m not homeless. I have just one home, a beautiful one. I’m here for the day because I can’t return to my primary residence.”
