Former President Donald Trump reacted to fresh charges filed against him by Special Counsel Jack Smith, asserting that the Justice Department’s actions are driven by political motives aimed at interfering with his campaign.
As the frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Trump is now facing new allegations, including willful retention of national defense information and two obstruction counts, as reported by Fox News.
In response to the latest indictment, Trump spoke with Fox and labeled it as “election interference at the highest level.” He expressed frustration, stating that the charges not only targeted him but also involved harassment towards his family and his company.
The Trump campaign further claimed that President Joe Biden’s administration was behind the charges, suggesting they were part of a continuous effort to harass him and his associates.
Calling the new charges baseless and a result of prosecutorial overreach, Trump attributed them to his high polling numbers, emphasizing that if he wasn’t leading the polls and positioned as the likely Republican nominee, he believes these charges would not have been brought against him.
Trump condemned the Biden administration’s Department of Justice, portraying their actions as abusive to the country. He expressed hope that the Republican Party would take action to address the situation.
