Arizona Republican Kari Lake has reiterated her previous statements about being presented with a tempting proposition aimed at dissuading her from running for office in the upcoming 2024 elections.
During the 2022 midterm election, Lake narrowly lost her bid for Arizona’s governorship to Democrat Katie Hobbs, the former Secretary of State, by a margin of approximately 17,000 votes.
According to Lake, an undisclosed influential individual personally approached her with this offer.
The proposal entailed a substantial amount of money and a position on a corporate board, on the condition that Lake refrained from pursuing any political endeavors for a duration of two years.
Lake recounted an incident where a man showed up at her doorstep and offered her “an esteemed job title, a generous salary, and a board position, in exchange for a commitment not to run in the upcoming 2024 election.”
When questioned about the amount she would require “to withdraw from politics for two years,” Lake asserts that she responded by saying, “Inform your handlers back East that I cannot name a price because there is no amount for which I would betray my country.”
Lake initially made this claim public in March and repeated it during an interview with radio talk show host Eric Metaxas on Tuesday, while also promoting her recently published book, “Unafraid: Just Getting Started.”
According to a New York Times report, Lake is contemplating running against incumbent U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema in the 2024 general election. Sinema, who has transitioned from the Democratic Party to an Independent, may potentially be more vulnerable to a Republican challenger.
Congressman Ruben Gallego, a Democrat, has already announced his candidacy for the same seat.
The emergence of this revelation could bolster Lake’s support base, reinforcing the perception of her as a committed and principled candidate driven by public service rather than personal financial gain.
