On Thursday, federal law enforcement officials apprehended an individual, reportedly identified as 37-year-old Taylor Taranto by NBC News and CBS News, who is accused of making threats against former President Barack Obama.
The arrest took place near Obama’s home, with the Secret Service spotting the suspect a few blocks away. As he attempted to flee towards the residence, authorities successfully intercepted and detained him. Additionally, Taranto had an active warrant for his arrest related to charges stemming from the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

According to law enforcement sources, CBS News reported that the arrested suspect had a prior record of making disturbing threats against a public figure on social media.
The individual also had an outstanding warrant related to the January 6, 2021, riot. The report mentioned that the suspect was found in possession of weapons at the time of arrest.
Al Arabiya reporter Nadia Bilbassy Charters shared on Twitter that the suspect had allegedly made threats to bomb Obama’s residence. Additionally, as per the CBS News report, federal law enforcement disclosed that the suspect had both weapons and materials capable of creating an explosive device in their possession.
The authorities had been monitoring the suspect due to recent threatening statements made by the individual online.
