Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has reached a plea deal with the U.S. Justice Department, as announced on Tuesday. In response to these federal charges, the White House officials and President Biden have expressed their continued support for Hunter, highlighting the importance of family unity throughout Joe Biden’s presidency.
The charges against Hunter Biden involve two misdemeanor offenses related to his failure to file federal income tax returns. Additionally, he has agreed to a pretrial diversion agreement that allows him to avoid prosecution.
One of the charges pertains to the possession of a firearm, stemming from an October 2018 incident when Hunter was unlawfully in possession of a firearm due to his addiction to a controlled substance at the time.
According to David Weiss, a U.S. attorney in Delaware, Hunter Biden failed to pay federal income taxes for the years 2017 and 2018, with an outstanding tax liability exceeding $100,000 for each year.
Weiss said: “Despite owing in excess of $100,000 in federal income taxes each year, he did not pay the income tax due for either year. According to the firearm Information, from on or about October 12, 2018, through October 23, 2018, Hunter Biden possessed a firearm despite knowing he was an unlawful user of and addicted to a controlled substance.”
According to Wise, in the event of a conviction, Hunter could potentially be sentenced to a maximum of 24 months in prison.

In response to these developments, Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House, stated, “The president and first lady continue to support their son and stand by him as he works to rebuild his life. We will not be making any further comments.”
Throughout the years, President Biden has consistently stood by his son, offering support during his legal, business, and addiction challenges. Observers have noted that the president shows no signs of distancing himself from Hunter, even as the Justice Department’s investigation intensifies.
Insiders have mentioned that Hunter has been a regular presence at family events held at the White House and has accompanied the president on official trips, including the State visit to Ireland in April.
Despite the ongoing controversy, some of Hunter Biden’s artwork has even been displayed on the walls of the White House, underscoring the Biden family’s commitment to each other. This stance has remained unchanged despite the public disclosure of Hunter’s charges.
While Hunter has informally advised Joe Biden throughout his political career, the White House maintains that the president has not interfered in the Justice Department’s investigation into his son.
With Hunter Biden’s acceptance of the plea deal, this episode represents a turning point in a challenging period that has tested the strength of family bonds. As the investigation progresses, Hunter Biden, his family, and the White House eagerly await further developments.
