President Biden is set to announce an additional $600 million in climate spending on Monday, as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to combat climate change.
The announcement will take place in Palo Alto, California, where Biden will highlight initiatives aimed at fortifying coastal infrastructure and safeguarding against the impacts of rising sea levels and extreme weather events.
The funding includes $575 million allocated for reinforcing coastal infrastructure and $67 million dedicated to enhancing the resilience of California’s power grid against severe weather conditions.
The Biden administration emphasizes that the funding will support innovative solutions for coastal resilience and adaptation, such as the construction of natural infrastructure, community-led relocation planning, and the protection of public access to coastal resources.
Climate change has remained a key priority for President Biden throughout his administration. This recent funding commitment follows the U.S. government’s pledge of an additional $1 billion donation to the Green Climate Fund of the United Nations earlier this year.
The climate-focused event on Monday precedes a series of fundraising activities scheduled by President Biden in California for his 2024 re-election campaign.
During his visit, he plans to meet with technology billionaires and climate donors in what will be his most extensive fundraising effort since announcing his re-election bid.
