During a recent speech, Kamala Harris caused concern among some observers for her soundness of mind after an awkward moment of inappropriate laughter.
The speech was given at a ceremony to swear in commissioners for the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics, which was re-initiated by President Joe Biden in 2021.
Harris interrupted her own thought during the speech to insert a strange personal anecdote about her mother, saying, “My mother used to, she would give us a hard time sometimes… ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?'”
Harris then laughed at the quotation, but few in the audience seemed to share her amusement.
“You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you,” Harris continued, without pausing to explain her strange quip about the coconut tree.
Vice President Harris has been known for having awkward moments, and this is not an isolated incident.
Harris has often been criticized for not being charismatic or charming, and she appears to falter under pressure, as was evident in her disastrous interview with Lester Holt in 2021.
When Holt questioned Harris about her decision not to visit the border, she responded with what appeared to be an incoherent response, stating, “At some point, you know, we are going to the border. We’ve been to the border. So this whole thing about the border, we’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border.”
