Several reports indicate that leaders of the Democratic Party are becoming more apprehensive about President Biden’s tendency to “underestimate” the possibility of Trump winning the 2024 Presidential election.
According to Fox News, one key strategist warned Party leaders to “be very f—ing worried” about Trump’s ability to win in a rematch between him and Biden.
Several news outlets, including The Hill, Fox News, and The New York Times, issued articles on Wednesday, alerting readers that Trump has a high likelihood of winning the election, and that Biden’s team’s plan to adopt a low-profile campaign strategy, similar to that of 2020, may not guarantee success.
According to Fox News, Democratic strategists have expressed their dissatisfaction with Biden’s team, claiming that they are not giving enough importance to his chances of getting re-elected. Meanwhile, The Hill reported that Democrats are feeling anxious about Donald Trump’s prospects. Several of them are bewildered that his ongoing legal issues, including federal lawsuits in New York, Georgia, and Florida, have not adversely affected his standing in the polls.
The Hill also reported that “one prominent Democratic strategist” expressed their frustration: “There is a concern from a lot of people like me, for sure. There’s a disconnect between the consultant class of our party and the voters.”
The strategists criticized Biden’s perceived campaign strategy, stating, “They believe that merely running a series of advertisements that portray Donald Trump as unstable will be enough. However, that is not the case.” The Hill referred to an ABC News/Washington Post poll, indicating that in a hypothetical rematch, Trump is ahead of Biden by 6 points. The survey reveals that Trump has gained six points over the previous month.
Although a few Democratic leaders perceive the recent poll findings as an irregularity, some are less convinced. According to Fox News, “last month, a Harvard-Harris survey put Trump ahead of Biden by 5 points,” and a Wall Street Journal poll conducted recently revealed that Trump is leading Biden by 3 points.
The Hill attributed the decline in Biden’s ratings to “an absence of enthusiasm in his re-election campaign.” The New York Times agreed with The Hill’s analysis. The title of their article read, “Some Democrats express concern that the initial sluggishness of the campaign indicates a lack of urgency before a potential rematch against Donald Trump.
His aides insist that they know what they are doing.” The Times’ article started with the sentence, “Two weeks after President Biden announced his re-election bid, his campaign manager has yet to commence work, his seven co-chairs have not held a group meeting, and his team has made minimal efforts to reach out to allies in Congress.”
The New York Times article concluded with the following statement: “Democratic allies, a few of whom have expressed concern publicly while the majority have shared it privately, fear that Mr. Biden and his political team, who have primarily triumphed by running against Donald J. Trump rather than by harnessing authentic liberal passion, are not exhibiting the requisite urgency for the upcoming war.”
