Rep. Lauren Boebert from Colorado just introduced a new bill called the Exposing Lewd Outlays for Social Networking Companies (ELON) Act. This bill would make it so the government has to tell everyone how much money they’ve given to social media companies like Twitter.
The ELON Act would also make the government show all the money they’ve given to social media companies since January 1, 2015 and they wouldn’t be able to give any more money to these companies for a whole year.
The reason Boebert made this bill is because she found out that the FBI was paying Twitter to help with some stuff and she thinks it’s weird that the government and these big tech companies are working so closely together. She wants to make sure everyone knows about it and that the government stops giving so much money to these companies.
Some other politicians from the Republican party are also supporting this bill, like Anna Paulina Luna from Florida, Paul Gosar from Arizona, and Mary Miller from Indiana.
